Tascam Introduces Versatile 16-In/16-Out Dante Stagebox

Pro Audio and Studio – Music Instrument News

Tascam has announced a Dante-enabled stagebox with 16 inputs and 16 outputs. The SB-16D combines all the advantages of Dante networking and seamless integration with the new Tascam Sonicview digital mixing consoles – but can also be used in other Dante setups. Controllable via Tascam’s IO Control app or Sonicview consoles, the SB-16D can be used on the floor or rack-mounted, and multiple units can be stacked and used simultaneously on a Dante network.

With 16 XLR mic/line inputs and 16 XLR line outputs, the SB-16D easily accommodates large ensembles and extensive Dante installations. Each input uses a Tascam Class 1 HDIA mic preamp – the finest microphone preamplifier Tascam has ever made. Thanks to a circuit with exceptional noise characteristics in the first stage, these preamps are extremely quiet achieving an equivalent input noise level of –128 dBu, a high signal-to-noise ratio, and excellent frequency response. The microphone inputs accept levels up to +32 dBu, providing plenty of headroom, and include signal/clip indicators as well as 48V phantom power. A signal/clip indicator is also provided on each output.

When an SB-16D is connected to a Tascam Sonicview 16 or 24 mixer, microphone gain can be remotely controlled from the console, and all inputs and outputs are displayed on the Sonicview touchscreens for easy operation. The stagbox also provides eight GPIO inputs and eight GPIO outputs. These can also be controlled from the mixer or Tascam’s IO Control app.

The SB-16D provides two Dante ports for robust connections with redundant streams. For added system reliability, a DC input allows for redundant power supply (not included).
