Jeff Hamilton doesnt have a crash cymbal at his setup which means the Hammertone Ride was developed to work as both a ride and crash. Ideally both the 20 and 22 ride would be used alongside each other for a range of dynamic musicality. The bowed shape of the Sabian Crescent 20 Hammertone Ride cymbal raises the overtones to produce a balanced mid-range tone with low and high pitched sounds. When riding there are washy dark and sizzling undertones. When crashing you get a brighter and louder tone. The bell is intensively hammered to soften and mellow out the sound.
